Hi! Welcome to my staff webpage! My name is Mark Knopf and I’m proudly teaching my 28th year in HPS. I and am very excited to once again be teaching 8th graders in the Early U. S. History course, and 11th and 12th graders in my Advanced Placement United States History (APUSH) course.
The best way for parents or students to reach me with questions or concerns is by emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I check my email often every day, and look forward to hearing from any parent who may have any questions regarding an assignment, test, or anything else you may wonder about my courses.
The syllabus for each course I teach is available below, if you should wish to look them up during the year. And, as always, the number one communication piece from me to students is through their Google Classroom site, which will include special announcements, reminders, and any homework assignments they will be given to accomplish every day. Please ask your kids if they have checked Google Classroom and if they have completed all homework for that day. MANY THANKS.
While teaching our kids is the most important of my jobs, I also enjoy serving as sponsor for the 8th /9th FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) club. The purpose of the club is to encourage students in their faith to live out what they believe and to make connections between their daily lives as students in school, their spiritual lives, and (if competing at the time) their commitments as teammates. The club is free of cost, and open to all students, not just to athletes competing in a sport at the high school. All students are welcome to join us, as we continue to meet in my classroom Thursdays during the 8/9 lunch period. (There is also a 10-12 th grade lunch FCA that meets every other Friday during the 10-12 lunch period.)
It has also been my honor to coach the Boys’ 7th /8th Tennis Team since 1990. My 27th campaign as coach will be our first season welcoming 6th graders to the team! It will be fun and a very exciting challenge to see how quickly they learn to play the FANTASTIC game of Tennis, and to see how quickly our veteran players can make the 6th graders feel an equal part of the team!
My third “outside the classroom commitment” has been as an MHSAA referee for Girls 7/th/8th grade Volleyball, and 7th /8th grade Boys and Girls Basketball for the last 27 years. The best thing about these extracurricular activities is that they have allowed me to get to know the kids outside of the classroom, which has proven over the years to equate to better connections between us and to better academic performance from them in the classroom. It has also been a way to keep in shape, while working with our kids. Win-Win!
